Ronin is an 11½-year-old male Shiba Inu looking for a quiet retirement home where he can enjoy his golden years. Don’t let his age fool you. While he has slowed down a bit, he still enjoys walks, playtime, and learning new things, especially if treats are involved.

Like many Shibas, Ronin is independent and appreciates having his own space. He is not a velcro dog or constant cuddler, but he loves being near his people. Whether you are working from home or relaxing on the couch, he will happily settle nearby to keep you company.

One of Ronin’s biggest strengths is how food motivated he is. He enjoys training, knows several basic commands, walks nicely on leash, and has excellent house manners.

Daily Life With Ronin

Ronin is a senior Shiba with a gentle, steady presence. He enjoys walks, occasional playtime, and spending time near his people without needing to be constantly handled or fussed over.

He enjoys:

  • Walks and quiet adventures
  • Occasional playtime
  • Learning new things for treats
  • Relaxing near his people
  • Having his own space when he wants it

He is a good fit for someone who appreciates the independent, loyal personality that makes Shibas so special.

Health

Ronin is overall in good health for his age.

  • Receives Cytopoint as needed for seasonal allergies
  • Has a few benign fatty lipomas that have been examined by his veterinarian
  • Moves a little slower due to age and an old leg injury but still enjoys daily life
  • Currently eating a weight-management diet
  • Experiences some anxiety during veterinary visits and nail trims, so his family uses medication and low-stress grooming to keep him comfortable

The Home He’s Looking For

Ronin has classic Shiba traits. He is intelligent, loyal, and independent. He can be aloof with new people at first, but he warms up and enjoys human companionship.

He does have a prey drive and has shown resource guarding around food and occasionally toys with other dogs. He currently lives successfully with another dog, but because of these behaviors, his family believes he would be happiest as the only pet.

Why Ronin Needs a New Home

As his owners prepare to welcome their first baby, they have made the heartbreaking decision that they will not be able to safely manage Ronin’s needs while caring for a young child. This decision comes from love and careful planning, not a lack of commitment to him.

Ronin’s Ideal Home

  • Adult-only home
  • No other pets preferred
  • No small children
  • Securely fenced yard is a plus, though he also walks well on leash
  • A family who understands senior dogs and appreciates Shiba independence

Ronin deserves a family that appreciates the unique personality that makes Shibas so special and is looking for a loyal companion to share quiet evenings and adventures together.
